2012 Fan Fest recap

I attended the 2012 Fan Fest. This year they had a different setup. The autograph section was the main event. Since it was a secret, it was any ones guess who will be signing. I stood in one line with my friend Art and my wife and son in another. When the players arrived, it turned into a "Love Connection" event. Everyone wishing for their favorite player to sit in their line.  Bobby Abreu and LaTroy Hawkins where in my line. Since I have numerous items signed by Abreu. I got his auto for a friend. Hawkins signed a ball for me but signed it different than what I have seen before. My wife and son had Kendrys Morales and Alberto Callaspo. They got them to sign a ball and a mini helmet. After the active players signed Angels alumni took over. I passed on that round to enjoy Family Time.
There was commotion within the lines, people trading spots. The lines didn't get longer but got wider in the front. Angels Stadium is known to have control of their lines, but lack this time around. It seemed security had no clue.
We walked around to see what else was going on at Fan Fest. My son threw some baseballs and got a Chia Pet Rally Monkey. (A stadium giveaway from last year). I got my son a Angels Kids Club Pack. It included a hat, lanyard and vouchers for two free games and other discounts and goodies. There was many booths giving a chance to win tickets or other prizes throughout. A silent auction had game used memorabilia, everything from jerseys to cleats. Famous Dave's BBQ Shack gave out food and coupons. There was many things to see and do this year. But not too many food vendors.
On the main stage Victor Rojas and Jose Mota interviewed players. It seemed the whole team came out to join in the Fan Fest activities this year.  I got lucky for a photo opportunity with Alex Curry from Angels Weekly along with Corinne and Asha from the Fox Sports West Girls. I enjoyed this years event and cant wait for next year.

Bobblehead Fans

The 66ers will have a giveaway of Felix Hernandez bobbleheads on Saturday, April 14.  Game time is at 7:05.  Hernandez played at this stadium in the 2004 season. Other big names that played in San Bernadino were Ken Griffen,Jr., Paul Konerko, Ted Lilly, and Adrian Beltre. This bobblehead was scheduled last year but moved to this season. Arrive early since there is only 1500. They tend to go very quick.
Again the 66ers is the Angels single "A" minor league team. Tickets start at $5. And the food is inexpensive also. These games are fun and great to take the family to.
I will post other giveaways as they come close to the date. Thanks.

AM 830/ Opening Day

I attended the AM 830 broadcast in front of the stadium Friday. I thought it would be a shot to score some tickets or get an autograph, if they had a guest on the air. To my surprise they only gave out two pairs of tickets for Opening Day. Then Artie Moreno was a guest but phoned in. The only luck I had was the free coffee and sweet bread from the Katella Grill. Roger Lodge was very entertaining and did hype the crowd up. But I left disappointed, since they always give out things in the past. After the broadcast I left and walked around.
I noticed a stage in front of the stadium. As I got closer it was ESPN stage for Baseball Tonight. Around back there was rows of satellite trucks. All eyes were on the Angels for Opening Day. I didn't want to come home empty handed, or nothing to talk about. I waited to see the "Man" Pujols arrive. The media were also waiting. I was able to get Chris Iannetta's autograph. He was dropped off and walked up to everyone and signed. Mark Trumbo and Rich Thompson also signed for fans. After a while Pujols showed up. Everyone cheered as he entered the stadium. I was glad to be there for that moment.
I did meet great people waiting around. Two guys from Bakersfield another from Utah. Devoted fans that came into town just for Opening Day. I wished I remembered their names. Also got to meet some "regulars" that knew me from "Think Red Instead". It was good to hear their input about this blog. In all it was a good day even though I never had tickets for Opening Weekend.

Jim Abbott book signing

Former Angels pitcher Jim Abbott will be doing a book signing at Barnes & Noble on April 14.  Abbott's book called "Imperfect", recalls his struggles growing up with his birth defect. I have read an excerpt, and plan to buy this book if even if I don't go to this signing. It is that good.
If you do go to this book signing, expect them to be strict. As of right now they will allow one outside memorabilia item with a "in store" book purchase. I called and was told to call back on the April 12, to see if they have change that policy. Good luck and here is the information-
